travel journal

I have a travel journal that I took with me this time. It was five years since the last entry so I figure it was time. Today I have been struggling to get them through the scanner and gimp. So.. this is something…

This is a bag I bought at the most fantastic fabric shop in the universe. If you want to visit it go to Norrtälje, Sweden. It is a workplace for people with developmental disabilities. They print lovely pictures on fabric and they do stuff out of it.
This is my new and sunny go-out-and-paint-or-draw bag. This is also the first and only time I used the gouache I got from my mother as a birthday gift three weeks ago. I really like them and I know I will use them more, but they seems to be more of a desk painting medium than out on a rock or at the playground.

One day we heard some noise from the sea. We got courius and went for a walk towards the sound. A race maybe? When we found the best spot everything was calm again.

This is a hut the four-year-old built on the lawn one afternoon.

I sketch one cup a day for the moment. Just on random papers and places. This one is in the travel journal.

more

At the way home we stayed three nights at a croft were my childrens fathers grandmother was born and raised. She still stays there as much as she can during summers.
One foggy day we climbed the nearest mountain. I sat down and tried to catch the colors. I would have liked to spent the day there but I wasn’t alone.

After lunch we went to a nearby village, Nävekvarn, and looked at an art exhibition and I bought an old soap box to have my gouache tubes in. This is done with my ordinary watercolors.

water!

On Norröra we had to walk a bit to the nearest water pump. Clean water and a lot of fun. Fun for a week or two at least, I am quite pleased that I have a waterpipe all the way into my sink, my shower and my bathtub.

Well.. Back to the pump, Norröra was one of the locations for a TV series summer of 1963. The script was written by Astrid Lindgren and the series “Saltkråkan” rerun almost every year.
A building that is in “saltkråkan” is nowadays a kind of a attraction and the owners has a café there. One day I tried to sketch the house but the sun got in my eyes so I did the pump instead. My mother laughed at me.. choosing the pump over the house but I had a great time.

back home again

We have been on vacation for two weeks. Mainly on Norröra, an island in the Stockholm Archipelago.

To get from the cottage to the other side of the island we walked the path just right of this stone wall. For days I wanted to draw it and when I finally took a chair and placed it I discovered four frogs around my feets. I have this thing with or against frogs that almost made me swim back home again. But I took a deep breath and moved the chair way back out in the sun again. Who needs to be close when you can almost see it anyways?
